HOLLA AT HANNAH: CARA DELEVINGNE WORLDWIDE

In case you haven’t noticed Miss Cara D has been straight up killing it at the moment. A fixture on what seems like every recent runway show, Cara’s amazing cheekbones and THOSE eyebrows are smoking hot regardless but let’s take a little look at her best Fashion Week looks from London and New York in the past two weeks.

First up London

L-R TOPSHOP UNIQUE, ISSA LONDON, MULBERRY

The looks above are all fairly minimal. Top Shop Unique had Cara wearing bright blue eye shadow all over the eye with a flush of peach on the cheeks. Not the best look we had from Cara at LFW but maybe the most colourful!

At Issa London the makeup was stripped way back. A gray wash of eye shadow all over with no eyeliner or mascara and a tiny bit of highlighter on the inner tear duct. Paired with bare, semi-glossy lips this look was minimalistic but complemented the clothing perfectly.

My favourite of the London looks was definitely Mulberry! Two matte brown eye shadows and a soft brown liner created this stunning but subtle brown smoky eye. A soft coral lip and perfectly highlighted skin topped it off. The hair was tucked into the collars. It looks lovely on Cara but I’m not sure how well it would translate in the real world. In fact I’m almost certain people would constantly say to you “Hey your hairs all stuck in your shirt silly!”

Now on to New York!

L-R MICHAEL KORS, JEREMY SCOTT, OSCAR DE LA RENTA

These looks were a bit more exciting. I’m not going to lie, I was a bit devastated by the lack of amazing lip colours this season but these looks kind of made up for it.

Michael Kors went with a dramatic feline smoky eye with a white shadow in the inner tear duct to make the eyes pop even more. The lips were nude.

Jeremy Scott is obviously never going to be for the faint hearted. A neon green and black statement eye that is almost David Bowie-esque was a fun change among the smoky eyes and bare lips. The green liner was brought through the socket and then flicked up through the tail of the eyebrow. This was then joined with a black zig zag of eyeliner that came just under the eye. Add a fuchsia lip and you have maybe the brightest fashion week beauty look.

Oscar De La Renta was my kind of beauty. There were four looks in total and each one was gorgeous but Cara’s one was probably my favourite. Black crème liner created a subtle cat eye which was vamped up with a glossy deep red lip. Perfection! This was one of my favourite looks because it complemented the clothes so well. This makeup looks expensive. It looks thought put together selectively. Of course, Oscar De La Renta doesn’t just look expensive.

I had to include this one even though it’s not Cara because I am obsessed with it. This was another one of the looks at Oscar De La Renta, perfectly highlighted, clean looking skin with the most gorgeous matte pastel orange lip. I am now on the hunt for a matte pastel orange lipstick folks. Something I never thought I’d hear myself say.

So tell me, what has been your favourite AW 13 Fashion Week moment so far?

Holla At Hannah 7 – Big in Japan

I’m back from Japan for your latest hit of beauty.

I am so excited to share all the crazy beauty related things I saw in Japan!

First things first, Japanese girls are obsesssssed with nail art! They go nuts for it. Long, pointed acrylics that have so many stones and other decorations that they literally look like they weigh five kilos per nail. Even the girls that don’t have acrylics still manage to decorate their nails. Check out the picture of the nails I got! Warning: They’re a bit mental.

Secondly: Eyelashes! Fake eyelashes and eyelash growth serum is EVERYWHERE. I mean, Shu Uemura had to get his inspiration somewhere right? Some of the girls even wear multiple pairs of fake lashes and when I say multiple I mean four or five. Again, seems really heavy. I was even suckered into buying a false lash applicator under the false pretence that I might start wearing fake lashes everyday and that it would “practically pay for itself”.

The other thing that was really popular in Japan I call: wacky things that I’m not sure really work. They include: F Cup Cookies, cookies that are supposed to make your breasts grow and Shiseido: The Collagen, a collagen drink that they sell EVERYWHERE, they even have BB drinks, a relation of BB creams I think.

Lastly, coloured contacts that make your eyes look huge. They are worn en masse. Take a look at the picture I took below.

This was only about ¼ of what was on offer at the one store. There is a huge Dolly trend in Japan, as in girls dressing like Doll’s, big eyes, big lashes, big curly hair and pretty dresses. Before I went to Japan I thought this was bizarre:

How To Look Like A Doll by Venus Palermo

Now I think it is normal and totally Kawaii! Which is also how I feel about the new phone case that I got from Harajuku (featuring the totally demure and work appropriate nails I did myself at the airport)

 Till next time..HP xx

A quick beauty tip this time!

You know how people bang on and on about SPF and how it’s really important and you should wear it all the time? I’m not debating that. You should. Sun damage isn’t fun. But, saying that, neither is looking like a ghost and this is probably what’s happening to you if you are wearing makeup products that contain SPF at night and get your photo taken with a flash (which is probably happening if you are getting your photo taken at night).

The problem isn’t really the SPF itself it’s the two active ingredients that provide the actual SPF; Zinc Oxide and Titanium Oxide. These are physical sun blocks that will bounce the light from the flash back at the camera causing you to look especially white in certain areas. This is the same for talc, which is a filler that’s used in a lot of powder products.

I mean, the photo above speaks for it really doesn’t it? Skip the SPF at night BUT layer it on during the day. Might I recommend the Balm’s ‘Time Balm’ foundation as an SPF free, full coverage night time option? Stocked in selected pharmacies and now at David Jones!

Holla at Hannah

Do you guys watch Girls? If you don’t you should. It’s so funny and relevant and just the right kind of awkward and the main character is called Hannah.

We have two Hannah’s at Saunders. Hannah R is our stellar fashion assistant and Hannah P (me) is the best beauty assistant Saunders ever had. But back to Girls. In one episode Hannah revealed that in high school she had an advice column called ‘Holla at Hannah’ so we have decided to create our very own on the Saunders blog!

We’re going to take it in turns, Hannah R will do fashion tips and I’ll do beauty and you will learn so much from us you will wonder how you ever lived without us. And if you ever have a question you can just email us at info@sandcopr.com.au and we’ll answer it right here on the blog. How exciting is that?

So I’ll kick it off with a beauty tip inspired by the lovely Kate Fraser who heads up all our Fashion brands here at Saunders. On Monday evening Kate and I were getting ready for the Nars Mecca event. We were sharing a mirror and doing our makeup when I noticed Kate pumping her mascara wand in the tube. GUYS! This is such a big no-no. What you are really doing is pushing air into your mascara and causing it to dry out faster. It’s much better to twirl your mascara wand, this way you’re getting an even coverage of mascara on the wand and a longer life for your mascara.

So now you, and Kate, know: To keep the lash curl, you gotta learn to twirl.

MBFWA: Day Three Wrap Up

The Saunders office was almost empty on Wednesday as we were all very busy bee’s at MBFWA.

Oroton was first up with hair by Renya Xydis for Cloud Nine and nails by Miss Frou Frou. The makeup was provided by Nars for Mecca Cosmetica.  For the makeup Nars artist Linda Jeffreys created a soft bronzed look.

The hair by Renya Xydis using Cloud Nine was a modern take on the classic corn row. The hair was ironed using a Cloud Nine iron and then twisted back into a low pony tail. The pony tail was then curled with a Cloud Nine wand to add a soft curl and a bit of volume. The nails by Miss Frou Frou were a nude base  and then half the nail was painted with either Peacock, Tequila Sunset or Zest.

The collection itself was a beautiful mix of relaxed tailoring, silk seperates and sequined shifts.

And then there was Watson x Watson. Sisters Liberty and Somer Watson presented a highly wearable collection of weekend wear, sportswear and soft tailoring. Furs and leather pants are always a favourite, but the jacket’s were also stand out!

The hair and makeup were kept simple but with a little bit of fun injected. The hair by Redken was youthful and inspired by a girl that had been out at a rave all night and had the mroning mist settling on her hair. The rave theme carried through to the makeup with some of the girls having face art around the eyes. The makeup was done by Max Factor and included an immaculate skin base with hints of gold highlights.

Prix de Marie Claire

It’s that time of year again when you need to put your responsible voting pants on and submit your product selections for the Prix de Marie Claire Awards.

This year is particularly big for Saunders & Co with several of our brands being selected as finalists including evo, Diptyque, Nars, Elixia, SK-II, Olay, and Pantene.

All you have to do to is head to the Marie Claire website, fill in your details and select which products are your fave in each category.  SIMPLE!

Golden Globes 2012

Did you watch the Golden Globes? Here at Saunders and Co our favourite part was seeing some of the biggest names in Hollywood primped to perfection by our very own clients.

Keeping with the bohemian style of her dress, Jessica Biel kept her hair relaxed with loose waves thanks to Alterna’s Bamboo Range. For extra volume and lift Alterna Bamboo Volume Weightless Whipped Mousse and the Bamboo Volume Uplifting Root Boost were used on Jess’ damp hair. After styling the whole look was topped of with Alterna Bamboo Smooth Anti-Humidity Hair Spray to lightly finish the look and keep it in place all night.

Fekkai handled the stunning and elegant up-do’s for Kate Winslet, Dianna Argon and Kate Beckinsale. They also did Reece Witherspoon’s long, beachy waves.

Doubling up, Kate Winslet’s cheeks looked barely blushing with the help of Stila’s Convertible Colour in Lilium. The other Kate, Kate Beckinsale’s makeup stayed flawless all night thanks to Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer and Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturiser.

Evan Rachel Wood was positively glowing with a mix of Nars Gaiety and Angelika blush on her cheeks while her soft mauve lips were the perfect combination of Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Sex Machine and the new Larger Than Life Lip Gloss in Como.

Which Golden Globes look did you love? Do you prefer the elegant looks of Kate Winslet and Kate Beckinsale or something more relaxed like Jessica Biel or Reece Witherspoon?
